The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
