The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a demand for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
